Marseille-Provence International Airport (IATA: MRS) is located about thirty kilometres northwest of Marseille. Buses and taxis connect in less than 30 minutes. (Shuttle buses run approximately every 20 minutes). There are many domestic flights to Marseilles from several areas nearby, but the arrival of low cost airlines, connecting to several European cities, has made it a more reachable destination.
The main train station is Marseille St. Charles. Marseille has TGV lines to Paris (3 hours), Nice (2 hours) and to Brussels (5 hours).
Controlled by RTM, Marseille public transport does not have good reputation among the Marseillais, though there is solid bus (74 lines) and subway (2 lines) network. The subway makes it possible to traverse the centre of the city very quickly. There are also two new tramlines. Tickets for the bus/métro can be bought in cafes and at subway stations. Six-voyage tickets cost €7.10 and eleven-voyage tickets cost €13. The number of transfers is unlimited within one hour of boarding the bus/tram. Do be aware that subway closes at 9.00pm except Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, when it runs until 0.30am.
